Training for Secondary School and Tertiary Students
It is now widely recognised that the skills and knowledge that students need for life and work beyond school and university are much more than proficiency in reading, writing, numeracy and technical skills. While students, school leavers and graduates usually have the technical or knowledge-based ability to do a job well, they often lack the ‘soft’ skills critical to getting and keeping a job.
Consultrain can assist schools and graduate programs to enhance the career readiness and employability of their students by providing training in the broader range of knowledge and soft skills essential for them to make an effective transition from study to work. These ‘employability skills’ include:
- Resume and cover letter writing
- Effective interview preparation and answering interview questions
- Learning the ‘ropes’ and becoming effective in a new job quickly
- Communication, including effective email communication, active listening, feedback, assertion skills and non-verbal communication
- Teamwork
- Interpersonal skills
- Time and self-management
- Goal setting
- Decision making
- Problem solving
- Professionalism
Imagine sending your students on to their university or career goals knowing that you’ve given them the very best preparation to help them stand out from their peers in whatever field they’ve chosen?
What do schools think?
“This year our year 9 cohort had the benefit of listening to Adele Gaylard present on two occasions. Adele presented workshops on Interview Skills; preparing for interviews and responding to interview questions.
During these presentations over 220 young people were able to benefit from Adele’s experience as a trainer and interviewer. Her presentation was engaging and considered the students in front of her. Her varied delivery methods and hands-on approach enabled students to scaffold their learning and demonstrate their developing knowledge through a variety of carefully constructed activities.
Feedback from students in regards to Adele’s presentations was very positive and, based on the content of her presentation, many have gone on to secure interviews and consequently casual employment.
Personally I found Adele to be accommodating and positive in her interactions with staff in the planning of these workshops. She was organised, focussed and driven to provide the best experience possible. Adele’s ability to tailor her material to our students was much appreciated and made for a valuable learning experience.
I would have no hesitation in recommending her services for other presentations of this nature and wish her every success.”
